  POTTERY; WHEEL THROWING BOOTCAMP

  The Borrego Art Institute Pottery program is offering a wheel throwing workshop           taught by Borrego Ceramic Artist;   JACK SIMS                                                                                  

    If you have ever said “I wish I was better at wheel throwing”, this is your opportunity.

    Dedicate yourself to increasing your throwing skills so that you can develop enhanced control over              centering, opening up the mound, pulling up a cylinder or shaping a bowl.

     Previous throwing experience is a plus, but motivated beginners are welcomed.

     Class dates: Thursday, Feb 7,   10:00 – 12:00+ ……. Tuesday, Feb 12,  10:00 – 12:00+             

                      Tuesday, Feb 19,  10:00 – 12:00+ …….. Thursday, Feb 21,  10:00 – 12:00+

                      Tuesday, Feb 26,   10:00 – 12:00+ ……..Thursday, Feb 28,   10:00 – 12:00+

     Provided:  Tools and materials.  (Bring an apron or clothes you can get clay on)

     Location:   At The Pottery Studio, behind Borrego High School, under the blue canopy. Off of Cahuilla               Rd.  between the gymnasium and the football field, next to the pool.

     Cost:  $200

BASIC HAND-BUILDING TECHNIQUES

A Class for Beginners

Instructor: Sue Boutwell

Learn to make pinch pots, coil pots, and a box using rolled out slabs and tile cutters. Surface decorating and glazing techniques will also be covered. There will be 3 days of instruction plus 2 practice studio days. Your pieces will be bisque and glaze fired. MAXIMUM CLASS SIZE- SIX STUDENTS.

Cost: $120

Dates: Tuesday, January 29; Wednesday, January 30; Wednesday February 13

Hours: 10 am to 1 pm

Location: The Pottery Studio located under the big blue canopy between the High School Gymnasium and the football field. Enter the parking lot from Cahuilla Road.

    Celebrating the Arts in Borrego, an 8'x20' mosaic and tile mural, will be dedicated on March 23. Funded by a matching grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the mural is the work of many community members directed by The Pottery's long time director, Ginger Dunlap-Dietz. The public is invited to the unveiling of this stunning art project that celebrates all the arts in Borrego Springs: film, dance, pottery, photography, music, painting, and more. Join in the celebration on March 23 at 3:00 as the mural is unveiled and presented to the community.
