Flora & Fauna Show
October 14 - November 5, 2017
The Borrego Art Institute (BAI) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with the goal to inspire and enrich the community of Borrego Springs by offering a venue for the public to experience, create, and enjoy all forms of art.
Our distinctive campus features the Gallery, the Pottery studio and workshop, the ArtFarm gardens, the KidsArt programs and our on-site Restaurant, Kesling's Kitchen all in the heart of Borrego Springs’ core business district at Christmas Circle and Palm Canyon Drive. A community resource and gathering place, The BAI is an important catalyst for adult and children's education, participation, art appreciation, and a great meal.
Please join us for classes, shows and other events, and as a member. If you are an artist, a resident, a visitor, a family, an art lover, or simply a curious explorer, we look forward to welcoming you!

KESLING'S KIDS: This year Kesling’s Kitchen, in conjunction with the after school arts program and Outside the Box, developed and facilitated cooking classes for Borrego Springs Middle School students. The ongoing program is designed to give students practical cooking skills to use at home, teach them the value and taste of fresh, healthy food, and to show them that cooking can be fun!
This past school year, classes took place after school on Mondays for five weeks. Chef Thomas came to instruct several classes. Salaries for instruction were donated back to the Outside the Box program and much of the food was donated by Kesling’s Kitchen.
In the past, classes included developing and executing a catered art opening (the Clean Hands Catering Co.), fast and healthy breakfasts, and “My Tia’s best recipes.”
This year the classes were centered around what it would be like to cook in a real working kitchen as a team, developing knife skills, the importance of prep work, creating dishes, clean up and evaluating the results. The class schedule included:
week 1: fresh cut potato frites with the student's own recipe dipping sauce
week 2: fresh fruit smoothies
week 3: candied bacon with belgian waffles and fresh fruit
week 4: caesar salad (a native Tijuana dish)
week 5: individual pizzas made by students then pepperoni pizzas donated by KK
The kids had a great time cooking with a real chef and class sizes had to be limited to twenty each week. There was a waiting list for no shows. Both the school and Outside the Box felt the program to be very successful.
The Pottery will be open at 9 AM every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the first two weeks of October. We will not be open on Saturdays. The Studio will be closed the third and fourth weeks of October, reopening on Monday, the 30th. The nights have cooled down enough to fire the kiln. We need more potters so that we can fill the kiln for firing.
The Pottery Studio is located adjacent to the High School swimming pool on Cahuilla Road off of Borrego Springs Road. Find us under the big blue canopy.
